To change the tranparency of a node, click the Select Node Tool 
then click the node you want to change. Click the Tranparency Tool 
and a dialog box like the one shown below will appear. Slide the slider to the left to make the contents of the node more transparent. Click the gray circle with the white x in the upper right corner of the dialog box to apply the change and exit the dialog box.
